Hicking in Triglav mid of June 2010Goupil: ponedeljek, 31. maj 2010, ob 18.10 uri; ogledov: 21 Dear hickers,
I am planning a hicking tour in the Triglav National Park starting on Sunday, June 13th. Here is the track planned, starting from Pl. Blato:
[b:7de3af4acb]- Day 1:[/b:7de3af4acb]
Pl. V Lazu, Miseljski preval, Konjski preval
Triglavski Dom na Kredarici
[b:7de3af4acb]- Day 2:[/b:7de3af4acb]
Triglav, Luknja, Bovski Gamsovec, Dovska Vratca
Bivouc IV
[b:7de3af4acb]- Day 3:[/b:7de3af4acb]
Skrlatica, Dovski Gamsovec, Kriski Podi, Pihavec, Dovska Vratca
Bivouac pod Luknja
[b:7de3af4acb]- Day 4:[/b:7de3af4acb]
Luknja, Trzaska koca, Kanjavec, M. Ticarica
Koca pri Triglavskih jezerih
[b:7de3af4acb]- Day 5:[/b:7de3af4acb]
Dol. pod stadorjem
Pl. Blato
[u:7de3af4acb]Note:[/u:7de3af4acb] I know that it might be very challenging considering the conditions... This is no problem, we can make it in 6 or even 7 days if necssary (or make it shorter at the end).
[u:7de3af4acb][b:7de3af4acb]Questions are the following:[/b:7de3af4acb][/u:7de3af4acb]
- How deep is (or should be in 2 weeks) the snow on the normal path from Triglavski Dom to Triglav mount?
- If deep, Do we need Pieps, shovel and probe? (I suppose that we will get detailed information regarding avalanches at Triglavski Dom na Kredarici).
- Will we need crampons / ice axe?
- Should we be able to use the via Ferrata equipments? (or is there too much snow?)
- Should it be possible to go to Skrlatica (with/without rope)?
- Should it be possible to go from Mount Triglav to Luknja through the crest (with/without rope)?
- Is there a direct mountain rescue number (more efficient than 112) that we shall know in case of emergency?
Thank you very much for your help.
I wish you all having a good time in the mountains. |

Goupil: torek, 1. junij 2010, ob 10.02 uri Thanks a lot Jurcadet,
I am a little bit confused regarding the snow depth.
Here is a live picture from Kredarica:
http://www.hribi.net/spletna_kamera/kredarica/20
It seems that there is not more than 30 cm snow.
However, they say 230 cm on
http://www.arso.gov.si/vreme/napovedi%20in%20podatki/snezna_odeja.html
I think we will follow your advice (ice axe, crampons, harness, via ferrata set and 20-30 m rope)
I read on an old post (from 2004) that the equipment on the crest path from Trigalv to Luknja was dammaged.
Does anyone know if it has been repared / how it is now?
Thanks again,
Have a nice day |

Tejtej: torek, 1. junij 2010, ob 14.57 uri Camera is facing south, measurements are taken on a flat surface. |
|
jurcadet: torek, 1. junij 2010, ob 23.26 uri The most dangerous portions are:
Triglav - Luknja
ferrata on Škrlatica
from Škrlatica on Dolkova špica (verry chippy)

You have to go over that red scree
You must have a helmet!!! |

Tejtej: sreda, 2. junij 2010, ob 6.35 uri a subjective yes
You mean you would say that some parts are very exposed? Do you see more than what Jurcadet wrote?
It is very difficult to really evaluate the condition on the internet. If you tell me that the whole thing sounds crazy at this time in the year, we can still think about postponing the trip by a couple of weeks.
As far as I am concerned, all 3 sections Jurcadet wrote are exposed, however from your plan it is not obvious that you are going on Dolkova špica. No, it is not crazy to go this route at this time of year (the snow cover is stable), if you are used to these kind of conditions. |

Indeed, we are not planning to climb this one. We rather planned to go through Regjlica on our way back from Skrlatica.
As far as I know, there are to ways possible from Dovska Vratca to Skrlatica: one through Bivouak IV and the other one through Regjlica.
Is one of them more exposed than the other one? |
|
jurcadet: sreda, 2. junij 2010, ob 15.18 uri Triglav is not so dangerous, but you still have to be careful un winter conditions
the both ways on Škrlatica are simmillar difficult, but still you have to be carefull on that scree! |

Goupil: ponedeljek, 7. junij 2010, ob 8.29 uri Thanks tejtej!
It is really great to see pictures of how it is now. It looks actually better than I expected. :D
The hut opens on 20th of June (start of the season).
We plan to bring with us food and gaz for the whole trip. We will sleep in winter rooms. |
